Ankeny Genealogy Chapter

This month's topic is the Final Salute. The Final Salute is a program to ensure that the ashes of no Veterans are left on the shelves of funeral homes. It works to provide an honorable burial service with military honors. The program also works with the urns of unclaimed civilians and heartbreakingly, unclaimed children. Dennis Allen who directs the organization will talk about how the program came to be and describe the genealogical research that goes into learning the life stories of the individuals and locating living family members and how final burials are arranged.
